“13 Reasons Why” On Verge of Season 2 Renewal at Netflix (Exclusive)

13 Reasons Why Season 2 NetflixNetflix

Netflix is in negotiations to bring back its hit teen series for a second season, multiple sources have told The Tracking Board.

Though insiders say a renewal is “imminent,” they caution that the streaming service does not have a closed deal yet, and accordingly, Netflix declined to comment.

Created by Brian Yorkey, and hailing from Paramount TV and Anonymous Content, 13 Reasons Why stars Dylan Minnette as Clay Jensen, who receives a box of cassette tapes from his late classmate Hannah (Katherine Langford), who killed herself under a cloud of mystery.

One reason that Netflix is eager to bring back 13 Reasons Why is that the show dominated social media, garnering more than 11 million tweets since its launch on Mar. 30, according to Variety. That kind of fan engagement has made it the most tweeted-about show of the year, besting The Vampire Diaries and The Walking Dead.

13 Reasons Why is executive produced by Spotlight director Tom McCarthy as well as Selena Gomez, who boasts the most followers on Instagram, where she has been active in promoting the series.

At this point, it’s unclear which actors and directors will return for the second season, but rest assured, most of your favorites will almost certainly be back.

  1. Just because things get attention on twitter or any socal media does that always equate to more seasons? Are executives or whoever makes these decisions interested in the content of what’s being said? I’ve mostly read how it’s glorifying sucide and not offing alternative options for younger viewers and it’s dangerous due to the intense contents and lack of helplines provided at the end of each episode. Also it did feel like it always had a season two with the unresolved issues of a few teens with guns by the last episode.
