“Absentia” Series Starring Stana Katic Acquired by Amazon

Castle grad lands drama series acquired by Amazon. This series will mark her return since Castle went off the air in 2016. Absentia will have a 10 episode first season that will premiere in 2018.

In addition to the U.S., Amazon will also be distributing the drama in the U.K, Australia, Austria, Germany, India, Israel, Italy, Netherlands, Singapore, South Korea, and Turkey.

Katic will play Emily Byrne, an FBI agent who disappears without a trace and is declared dead while hunting one of Boston’s most notorious serial killers. Six years later, she is found in a cabin in the woods, barely alive and with no memory of the years she was missing. When the agent returns home not only to learn that her husband has remarried and her son is being raised by another woman, but also to find herself implicated in multiple murders.

Jack Reacher: Never Go Back star Patrick Heusinger will play Emily’s former husband and fellow FBI Agent Nick. When his missing wife returns he must bring Emily into custody as the prime suspect in the mysterious murders.

Rounding out the cast is Cara Theobold (Downton Abbey), Neil Jackson (Sleepy Hollow), Angel Bonanni (False Flag), Richard Brake (Game of Thrones), Ralph Ineson (Game of Thrones), Paul Freeman (The Dogs of War), Bruno Bichir (Narcos) and Patrick McAuley (The Conjuring 2).

The series hails from creators Gaia Violo and Matt Cirulnick based on a pilot script written by Violo. Katic executive produces the series, along with Cirulnick, Julie Glucksman, and Maria Feldman. Absentia was ordered to series in October 2016 for AXN, the Sony Pictures Television-owned premium cable/satellite, and cable network.

Katic previously starred on ABC’s Castle for eight years before being canceled in 2016. She is represented by The Artists Partnership and The Gersh Agency.
