A24 has released the first trailer for acclaimed British filmmaker Andrew Haigh’s next film Lean on Pete, which will be released on March 30.
Haigh is best known for his 2015 movie 45 Years, for which Charlotte Rampling received an Oscar nomination, as well as his previous film Weekend and the HBO series Looking.
Lean on Pete stars Charlie Plummer (All the Money in the World) as 15-year-old Charley Thompson, who moves to Portland with his father Ray (Travis Fimmel). As Ray deals with personal issues, Charley gets a job at a racetrack tending to an ageing race horse named Lean on Pete, owned by Del Montgomery (Steve Buscemi). When Charley learns that the horse is destined to be slaughtered, he goes to extreme measures to save it. The movie also stars Chloé Sevigny as a jockey at the track that Charley befriends.
Lean on Pete ran the Sept. festival gauntlet, premiering at Venice, then playing Telluride, Toronto and the London Film Festivals. (Plummer received a Young Actor award at Venice.)
Lean on Pete will open in the UK on Feb. 16 before its U.S. release on March 30.
