Director David Slade, who has found a home for himself on the small screen, is taking on his next feature with the western SURROUNDED. The film comes from a spec written by Andrew Pagana and Justin Thomas back in 2012. It’s currently in development with Atlas Entertainment and recently landed at Netflix as its studio.
The story takes place over the course of a day when a young man holds a dangerous outlaw captive and tries to survive as the outlaw’s gang closes in on them to free the outlaw.
It’s a compelling and refreshingly simple outline that promises tension and the unexpected unfolding over the course of a tight timeline.
Atlas’ William Green and Aaron Ginsburg are producing, with Andy Horwitz serving as executive producer.
Slade has previously directed three films — the Ellen Page and Patrick Wilson drama Hard Candy, the horror film 30 Days of Night, and the third installment in the Twilight franchise Eclipse. He is perhaps better known now for his television directing, most notably working with Bryan Fuller on Hannibal and now on the upcoming series American Gods.
