20th Century Fox TV’s animated comedy CENTRAL PARK has landed a two-season order from Apple in a competitive situation between multiple streaming series. The project hails from Bob’s Burgers’ Loren Bouchard, Nora Smith, and Frozen‘s Josh Gad. Gad will lend his voice to the series along with Kristen Bell, Stanley Tucci, Daveed Diggs, and Kathryn Hahn.
The comedy tells the story of how a family of caretakers, who live and work in Central Park, end up saving the park, and basically the world. The show was originally looking at a home on Fox, where animated series like The Simpsons, Family Guy, and Bouchard’s Bob’s Burgers have enjoyed great success, but Fox passed sparking a bidding war between Apple, Netflix, and Hulu.
Bouchard, Smith, and Gad penned the project, and Bouchard and Gad will executive produce with Brillstein Entertainment Partners. Smith will serve as a consulting producer. Kevin Larsen is attached to produce.
Apple has been making a big splash since announcing they would produce their own original material. They have already given a two-season order to a drama series starring Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston, set in the world of morning show television, and a straight-to-series order for Steven Spielberg and Bryan Fuller’s reimagining of Amazing Stories. Reese Witherspoon is also producing a comedy series for Apple with SNL alum and Wonder Woman 2 villain Kristen Wiig attached to star.
