Saban Films and Lionsgate have released the first trailer for Jason Momoa’s action-thriller Braven, which doesn’t have the greatest title but might actually be an okay vehicle for the Justice League star, even if Saban Films tends to release a lot of VOD schlock.
The feature film directorial debut by stuntman Lin Oeding (The Equalizer, The Last Ship) working from a screenplay by Thomas Pa’a Sibbett (story by Mike Nilon), the Game of Thrones and Justice League star plays Joe, a man who travels with his father (Avatar‘s Stephen Lang) to their remote hunting cabin for a quiet weekend only to find drugs hidden their by drug traffickers, who arrive at the cabin to retrieve the drugs and kill anyone who stands in their way. It forces Joe and his father into a battle for survival against the criminals.
Garret Dillahunt, Jull Wagner and Brendan Fletcher co-star with Jason Momoa and Lang.
The film was produced by Momoa, along with Brian Mendoza, Molly Hassell Mike Nilon, and exec. produced by Henry Winterstern, Arianne Fraser, Delphine Perrier, Bill Bromiley, Ness Saban, Shanan Becker, Charles Auty, Megan Forde, Michael Acierno and Daniel Levin.
As with most of Saban’s films, I’m in a “wait and see” mindset about Braven. It looks good from its trailer, but Saban has made some great trailers for crappy movies before with a few exceptions like last year’s action-comedy Killing Gunther from Taran Killam.
Braven will be released by Saban and Lionsgate on Feb. 2 both in theaters and On Demand.
