Benedict Cumberbatch in Talks to Star in “The Man in the Rockefeller Suit”

Doctor Strange star is in negotiations to star in the adaptation of for Fox Searchlight. The project is based on the nonfiction book of the same name by Mark Seal and is being adapted by David Bar Katz.

The book tells the story of Christian Karl Gerhartsreiter (Cumberbatch), a German immigrant who, after moving to the United States, posed as a fictional member of the Rockefeller family. His ruse landed him with a variety of Wall Street jobs and a marriage to a successful businesswoman with whom he had a daughter.

When they divorced and he was granted limited access to their daughter, he ended up kidnapping her and was convicted for the crime. In 2011, he was charged with a murder in the 1980s and two years later, was convicted and sentenced to 27 years to life, which he’s now serving.

This will not be the first time Cumberbatch has played a real-life figure. Previously, he played Julian Assange in 2013’s The Fifth Estate, then Alan Turing the following year in The Imitation Game, and coming up he’ll appear as Thomas Edison in The Current War. He’ll also reprise his Marvel role as Doctor Strange in this year’s Thor: Ragnarok.
