One of the lower-profile thrillers that premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in Sept., filmmaker Bryan O’Malley’s gothic horror film The Lodgers has a new trailer and poster..
Starring Charlotte Vega, Bill Milner (Son of Rambow), Eugene Simon, Moe Dunford, David Bradley and Deirdre O’Kane, the movie will be released by Epic Pictures in theaters and on digital platforms Feb. 23.
Set in rural Ireland in 1920, it stars Vega and Milner as twins Rachel and Edward who are living in a crumbling family estate that is haunted by spirits that forces them to be in bed by midnight and not permit any outsiders into the mansion. When war veteran Sean (Simon) returns home to the nearby village, he’s intrigued by the mysterious Rachel, who begins to break the rules to dire consequences.
The Lodgers is written by David Turpin and co-produced by Julianne Forde and Ruth Treacy of Tailored Films, the Irish Film Board and Epic Pictures Group.
Having seen O’Malley’s film already, I have to say that it’s nice to see filmmakers trying to do new things within the horror genre, especially a ghost movie, because it feels like there’s so much derivative repetition when it comes to creating scares.
