Cannes Winner Diane Kruger Joins Steve Carell in Robert Zemeckis Movie Based on “Marwencol”

Hot off winning the Best Actress award at Cannes,  has joined the cast of Universal’s starring Steve Carell, the Tracking Board has learned.

Based on the acclaimed 2010 documentary Marwencol, the film tells the moving true story of how one broken man used his artistic imagination to restore his human spirit.

Kruger will play Deja Thoris, the Belgin Witch of Marwen.

Zemeckis is directing from a script he co-wrote with Caroline Thompson. He’s also producing with Steve Starkey and Jack Rapke under their ImageMovers banner, along with Cherylanne Martin.

Marwencol director Jeff Malmberg will serve as executive producer along with Jackie Levine, while Universal executives Maradith Frenkel and Chloe Yellin will oversee the project on behalf of the studio.

Kruger won raves at Cannes for her performance in Fatih Akin’s In the Fade, and she’ll soon be seen in Justin Kelly’s JT Leroy as well as Butterfly in the Typewriter. She’s represented by , , and Peikoff/Mahan.
