Channing Tatum, Gina Rodriguez and Zendaya are set to star in SMALLFOOT, an animated movie hailing from Warner Animation Group that aims to flip the Yeti myth on its head, the Tracking Board has exclusively learned.
Animation veteran Karey Kirkpatrick (Over the Hedge) is set to direct from his own script, which is based on an original idea by Sergio Pablos (Despicable Me). John Requa and Glenn Ficarra are producing.
Rather than a traditional Bigfoot movie, a mythical Yeti is the hero this time around, who believes that humans really do exist.
Warner Bros. will release the film on Sept. 14, 2018 — the same fall corridor in which its animated film Storks debuted before going on to gross nearly $200 million worldwide.
Tatum voiced Superman in The LEGO Movie and The LEGO Batman Movie, and he also voiced a lead in Fox’s animated movie The Book of Life. Additionally, he’s expected to voice George Washington in Netflix’s R-rated animated movie America: The Motion Picture. On the live-action side, he next stars in Matthew Vaughn’s Kingsman: The Golden Circle and Steven Soderbergh’s Logan Lucky. He’s represented by UTA, Management 360 and attorney Stewart Brookman.
Rodriguez just signed on to voice Carmen Sandiego in an animated series for Netflix, though she has two animated movies coming out this year. She voices Mary in Sony Pictures Animation’s The Star, which will light up theaters in November, and she voices Una in Twentieth Century Fox Animation’s Ferdinand, which gallops into theaters the following month.
On the live-action side, Rodriguez just signed on to star in Sony’s remake of Miss Bala, and she’ll next be seen alongside Natalie Portman in Alex Garland’s sci-fi movie Annihilation, which debuted impressive footage at CinemaCon. With a fall release looming, expect Paramount to unveil that trailer at some point this summer. She’s repped by APA, Primary Wave Entertainment and Jackoway Tyerman.
Zendaya has never starred in an animated movie from a major studio, though she has lent her voice to the 2013 home video release Super Buddies and the upcoming animated film Duck Duck Goose. The up-and-coming actress is poised for a breakout year thanks to live-action roles in Spider-Man: Homecoming with Tom Holland and Michael Keaton, and The Greatest Showman with Hugh Jackman and Zac Efron. She’s repped by CAA, Monster Talent Management and Skrzyniarz & Mallean.
