Chris Pine Lands Fatherly Role in Star-Studded “A Wrinkle in Time”

As if Ava DuVernay’s upcoming adaptation of could land any more major stars, has been cast as the patriarch of the Murry family.

Based on the novel by Madeleine L’Engle, Pine will play microbiologist Mr. Murry, husband to Gugu Mbatha-Raw’s Mrs. Murry, who was cast only yesterday, and father to lead Meg Murry, played by Storm Reid. In the story, he goes missing, prompting Meg on a journey across time and space with her little brother and classmate to find him.

Also in the film are Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, and Mindy Kaling, as Mrs. Which, Whatsit, and Who, respectively.

Jennifer Lee (Frozen) is penning the script. Adam Borba and Jim Whitaker of Whitaker Entertainment are producing alongside Catherine Hand, with Charlotte Voilkis serving as executive producer. Sean Bailey, Tendo Nagenda, and Jessica Virtue are overseeing for Disney.

Pine most recently had his third outing as Captain Kirk in Star Trek Beyond and can also be seen in this year’s critically acclaimed Hell or High Water. Next up he’ll appear in Netflix’s Wet Hot American Summer and Wonder Woman from DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. as Steve Trevor.
