David Leitch Directing Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham “Fast and Furious” Spin-Off

Deadpool 2 and John Wick director has been hired to helm the , starring Dwayne Johnson’s Hobbs and Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw from the blockbuster Universal franchise, the Tracking Board has confirmed.

As with six of the installments of the Fast and the Furious series, the spin-off is written by Chris Morgan.

Johnson is just days away from Rampage, his first release of 2018 following the $400 million domestic blockbuster Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. Statham has been laying low since his appearance in last year’s Fate of the Furious, in which some of his best scenes were with Johnson. The British action star next appears in the giant shark movie The Meg, which just released a new trailer.

A former stuntman, Leitch first came onto the scene as a director with 2014’s John Wick, co-directed with Chad Stahelski, before branching off on his own with the action-thriller Atomic Blonde, starring Charlize Theron. His upcoming Deadpool 2, starring Ryan Reynolds, is expected to be one of the biggest movies of the upcoming summer movie season.
