Donald Sutherland to Play Tycoon J. Paul Getty in Danny Boyle’s FX Series “Trust”

Veteran actor has been tapped to star in the upcoming FX anthology series from filmmaker Danny Boyle, with production set to begin in June in London and Rome.

The 10-episode season focuses on the Getty family and the kidnapping and ransoming of John Paul Getty III, but the Italian believe it’s a prank and so they refuse to investigate.

Sutherland will play patriarch and grandfather J. Paul Getty, who had a strained relationship with his family, including his daughter-in-law and grandson’s mother, the only person dedicating to getting her son back. The elder Getty was described as an enigmatic tycoon and visionary in his time.

Boyle, who has an overall deal with FX productions, will direct and executive produce alongside Simon Beaufoy, who will also serve as head writer, and Christian Colson.

Sutherland has previously won two Golden Globes and one Emmy for his television work in Path to War and Citizen X. Last year he appeared in the films Forsaken and Milton’s Secret and had a role in the digital series Crossing Lines. Next, he’ll be seen in The Leisure Seeker with Helen Mirren and Basmati Blues with Brie Larson. He’s represented by .
