25 years after they first worked together on Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Keanu Reeves and Oscar-nominated actress Winona Ryder are back together again, having just wrapped Victor Levin’s indie comedy DESTINATION WEDDING, it was announced Wednesday.
Levin wrote the original script, which follows two miserable and unpleasant wedding guests who develop a mutual affection despite themselves. But to act on those feelings would be to trust hope over experience — a foolish choice indeed.
Sunshine Pictures’ Gail Lyon (Gattaca) and Two Camel Films’ Elizabeth Dell produced the movie along with Robert Jones of The Fyzz Facility, which is fully financing Destination Wedding. Elevated’s Cassian Elwes and The Fyzz Facility’s Wayne Marc Godfrey will executive produce the film, which recently wrapped production in central California.
“When comedy is seated in character and truth it’s both funny and moving, and on that basis Vic’s screenplay is one of the best I’ve read in a long time,” said Jones.
In addition to Dracula, Reeves and Ryder shared the screen in Richard Linklater’s 2006 animated film A Scanner Darkly. Both actors have enjoyed a recent resurgence thanks to their respective turns in John Wick and Netflix’s Stranger Things, the latter of which returns for its second season on Oct. 27.
Levin previously directed the well-received 2015 indie 5 to 7 starring Anton Yelchin, Bérénice Marlohe, Frank Langella and Glenn Close. A Golden Globe winner and four-time Emmy nominee, his previous writing work has included Mad About You, Mad Men and Win a Date with Tad Hamilton!, and he’s currently an executive producer, writer and director for the Starz comedy Survivor’s Remorse.
