Cut from the same cloth as psychological thrillers Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train, the film follows two girls at an elite Manhattan private school as they manipulate each other in a game of cat and mouse. Kate is a scholarship student who survives by lying her way into friendships with wealthy classmates. Olivia is the “it” girl of the Upper East Side with a dark and mysterious past. When a charming and handsome new faculty member joins their school, the girls are forced to bring their secrets to light.
Brian Robbins, Matt Kaplan, Brian Duffield and Nicki Cortese are producing. A director and screenwriter have yet to be set.
Fanning can be seen in the upcoming Mike Mills drama 20th Century Women as well as the Ben Affleck-directed crime drama Live by Night. She has an impressive list of films coming out in the forthcoming year including Sofia Copppla’s remake of The Beguiled, the Mary Shelley pic A Storm in the Stars, and John Cameron Mitchell’s How To Talk To Girls At Parties.
