The story is centered on an aging, former movie star, Vic (Reynolds), who is forced to face the reality that his glory days are far behind him when he’s invited to receive a lifetime achievement award from a tiny East coast film festival. Embarrassed by the low rent event, he bails on the award and forces the emotionally unstable girl assigned to be his driver, Lil (Shipka), to take him on a soul searching tour of the landmarks of his youth.
Shipka joins screen legend Reynolds on the project, who signed on to the film back in March. Rifkin, who is perhaps best known for the 1998 family comedy Small Soldiers, recently wrapped the feature Director’s Cut, written by Penn Jillette. He also worked on the long-in-development Where’s Waldo feature, and is penning the screenplay for the animated feature based on the Peeps candy.
Shipka, who is perhaps best known for her breakout role as Sally Draper on AMC’s Emmy-winning drama series Mad Men, will next be seen in the horror flick February, starring Emma Roberts. She also recently wrapped the comedy Fan Girl with Meg Ryan.
Production on Dog Years is expected to start in May.
Shipka is repped by CAA.
