In THE BOB WATSON, central character Randy Krane has become adept at pulling “the Bob Watson,” the artful ditching of useless corporate meetings, named after a colleague who was the original master of the game… only today’s Bob Watson leads to a wild, off the rails adventure.
With elements of the classic Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Greg Bardsley’s second novel creates a wish-fulfilling comedy for adults by employing the device of an ancient con passed down to a new generation of rule-breakers–a conceit that was also used in the massive hit The Wedding Crashers.
Bardsley previously wrote Cash Out, which drew favorable comparisons with The Hangover and Office Space. He has worked as a Silicon Valley speechwriter, a newspaper reporter, and a global communications leader, giving him personal experience in the both mundane and manipulative sides of corporate America. Like his previous novel, Bardsley’s Watson seems to express the best elements of the infamous “Brat” and “Frat”–even “Wolf”–Packs.
Watson is due out next year from Harper Perennial with David Hale Smith of InkWell Management repping the book. Shari Smiley of Gotham Group is overseeing the film and television rights.
