The movie follows a well-meaning single mother Laura (Farmiga) who is forced to drive her criminal father Jack (Plummer) from Texas to California with her troubled son Henry. While on their trip, Jack ends up using Henry to distribute large amounts of marijuana, they have a run in with Jack’s old criminal cohorts, end up stumbling into a batched drug robbery and Laura comes face to face with her deadbeat ex-husband. Through it all, the trio learns to embrace the fact that they are dysfunctional family.
Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Bailey Conway are set to produce under their Automatik banner. Chris Ferguson and Kenneth Burke will serve as executive producers. The film expected to start shooting in Vancouver in May.
Feste’s past films Endless Love and Country Strong explore fractured and reckless relationships — which goes in line with the premise of familial dysfunction in Boundaries. Farmiga and Plummer are familiar to playing parental roles. Oscar-nominated Farmiga currently plays the overbearing mother in A&E’s Bates Motel, while Plummer earned an Academy Award for his performance as a gay father dying of cancer in Beginners.
Farmiga can currently be seen in the Netflix movie Special Correspondents with Ricky Gervais. She also stars opposite Jacob Tremblay in the forthcoming adventure dramedy Burn Your Maps. She can be seen next reprising her role as the real-life Loraine Warren in James Wan’s The Conjuring 2. She is repped by CAA.
Plummer recently starred in Danny Collins with Al Pacino and the dramatic thriller, Remember with Martin Landau. He can be seen next in the adaptation Alan Judd’s The Kaiser’s Last Kiss. He is repped by ICM Partners and Markham, Froggatt and Irwin.
