The Muraviov Company and Epidemic Take “Rex” Into Sony, Fox, and Disney (EXCLUSIVE)
1As we first reported last week, a new family-oriented sci-fi book REX hit the market with some real heat behind it. Now, the YA adventure, co-written by authors Cody B. Stewart, Adam Rocke, and Mark Rogers, has stomped its way into some of the town’s biggest animation studios with Kathy Muraviov of The Muraviov Company and Darryl Taja of Epidemic Pictures and Management leading the charge.
We’re now hearing that Rex is into Sony Pictures Animation,20th Century Fox Animation, and Walt Disney Pictures with some heavyweight producers circling this one-of-a-kind literary property.
In the book, eleven year-old chaos magnet, TJ, and his tough-as-nails tomboy BFF, Sam, find a large, weird looking egg in the Florida Everglades after a tropical storm rips through. Strange – they can’t figure out what kind of egg it is. Even stranger – creepy men are now staking out T.J.’s house and military helicopters are buzzing their neighborhood. But the strangest thing of all is when the egg hatches. That’s when TJ and Sam realize life as they know it will never be the same.
The three authors of the family-oriented sci-fi book have combined their various backgrounds and talents to craft an unforgettable story. Stewart, who hails from Upstate New York, has an insatiable imagination that has resulted in numerous novels and comic books; Rogers has a lauded career as a travel journalist, experience which has fueled his creativity to write multiple novels and screenplays; and Rocke is an adrenaline junkie who throws his love of adventure into his stories. You can read more about Rex and the authors on the book’s homepage.
With the enduring popularity of the Jurassic Park series of books and films and the resurgence of stories that capture the adventurous spirit and wonder of being a kid, like Stranger Things, Rex is ripe for an adaptation.
The upstart publishing house Common Deer, founded by Ellie Sipila, is releasing Rex on October 5, 2016.
We can now confirm that Rex is into:
Sony Pictures Animation
20th Century Fox Animation
Walt Disney Pictures
