It’s finally here: the official teaser trailer for STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI. And rest assured, because it looks great.
As we already knew, Episode VIII is set to pick up precisely where The Force Awakens left: with Rey (Daisy Ridley) going to meet Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and learn the ways of the Jedi.
… Although that may be a little difficult when Luke says: “I only know one truth — it’s time for the Jedi to end.” Likely bitter by his failure to stop Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), his nephew, from turning to the dark side, it might be harder for Rey to appeal to Luke than she anticipated. Inevitably, though, this being the Hero’s Journey, Luke will step into the shoes of mentor once more to teach Rey, as the trailer teases.
The trailer also shows us glimpses of the rest of our new trio, Finn (John Boyega) in a pod of some sorts (perhaps healing after his confrontation with Kylo Ren at the end of The Force Awakens?) and Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) running frantically with BB-8 towards his X-Wing before it seems to meet its demise in an explosion.
At a little over two minutes, the trailer isn’t short on thrilling action sequences, epic music, and shots that will get your heart racing, including Leia (Carrie Fisher) and what looks to be Kylo Ren’s destroyed mask, not unlike Vader’s mask in the previous film.
Basically: Is it December yet?
