In a mid-six-figure deal, 20th Century Fox has acquired an untitled spec from Melissa Stack, the Tracking Board has confirmed. The project will also be Stack’s directorial debut, with Karen Rosenfelt producing the R-rated comedy.
Said to be loosely based on Stack’s own life, the story follows an older woman when she goes on vacation with her younger boyfriend and his family.
Daria Cercek will oversee for the studio.
After the heat Fox received in a March report by The Wrap for not having any female directors in their 2017 lineup, the strong female presence for this film is a smart — and necessary — move. With the increasing demand for diversity, both behind and in front of the camera, studios have little choice but to make conscious efforts towards this. In September of last year, Fox also announced a partnership with AFI to increase female directors in the industry.
