The live-action comic book adaptation has rounded out its cast. Baby Daddy alum Derek Thaler will play Mister Immortal and they will be joined by Jeremy Tardy as Night Thrasher, Calum Worthy as Speedball, Matthew Moy as Microbe and Kate Comer as Debrii.
Not unlike Marvel’s Young Avengers or New Mutants, the New Warriors is a superhero team of younger heroes who, just like their older counterparts like the Avengers, want to help save the world, but also have to deal with growing up and becoming heroes in their own right all the while.
Vayntrub’s Squirrel Girl is a particular fan favorite. Real name Doreen Green, Squirrel Girl’s superpowers give her the ability to communicate with and retain the powers of squirrels. Mister Immortal is blessed with immortality, but having all the time in the world has made him lazy and slow to start embracing being a superhero.
Dwayne Taylor, aka Nigh Thrasher, described as a shameless self-promoter and entrepreneur who also deeply believes in justice. Robbie Baldwin, known as Speedball, is an impulsive people-pleaser with a misplaced sense of confidence who throws kinetic balls of energy that are completely out of control.
Zack Smith, aka Microbe, is a shy hypochondriac whose ability is that he can talk to germs that tell him where you’ve been, what you ate and who you hung out with, which makes it impossible to keep secrets around him. Deborah Fields, or Debra, is a proud, funny and quick-witted, low-level telekinetic: low, as in she can move a paper cup.
The series, which will be executive produced by showrunner Kevin Biegel, Jim Chory, and Marvel Head of Television Jeph Loeb, joins the network’s other Marvel series “Cloak and Dagger” starring Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph. Both series are expected to debut on the network in 2018.
