“Get Out” Star Lakeith Stanfield Cast in “The Girl in the Spider’s Web”

2017 was a very good year for actor , who successfully transitioned his roles in Straight Outta Compton (playing Snoop Dogg) and Donald Glover’s FX show Atlanta into a series of prestigious acting roles. Of course, Jordan Peele’s Get Out was Stanfield’s highest profile role of last year, but he also starred in Netflix’s Death Note, The Incredible Jessica James opposite Jessica Williams as well as leading Matt Ruskin’s Crown Heights as the falsely imprisoned Colin Warner.

Stanfield has just booked a role in Sony’s The Girl in the Spider’s Web.as NSA security expert Alona Casales, who is pursuing Claire Foy’s hacker Lisbeth Salander.

Directed by Fede Alvarez (Evil DeadDon’t Breathe), the film is a semi-sequel to David Fincher’s 2011 adaptation of the late Stieg Larsson’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Adapted from David Lagercrantz’s 2015 novel which continued Larsson’s Millennium series, The Girl in the Spider’s Web recasts all the key roles from Larsson’s book with Foy as Salander, Swedish actor Sverrir Gudnason playing journalist Mikael Blomkvist (previously played by Daniel Craig) and Blade Runner 2049’s Sylvia Hoeks in another key role.

The movie will begin filming in Europe later this month to make its Oct. 19 release date with Amy Pascal and Elizabeth Cantillon producing with Scott Rudin Productions and Yellow Bird. David Beaubaire is overseeing the project for Sony.
