Super Bowl commercials breaks are some of the most expensive air time every year (a 30-second commercial cost $5.02 million this year), which means every company attempts to bring their biggest and best ads to justify shelling out exorbitant amounts of money for 30 seconds of television.  The game is always filled with never-before-seen trailers and commercials for upcoming movies and televisions series to get the audience excited for what’s to come.

Here are five that stood out during yesterday’s big event.

The GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 spot was one of the best things to happen during a commercial break and without question, Baby Groot was the highlight of the commercial because of how incredibly adorable yet threatening he is and how he encapsulates everything that made Groot great in the first film, but fun size.  The only thing that is revealed during this spot is that Yondu becomes a Guardian, which is interesting because in the first film he was greedy and it’s surprising that he would transition his focus to helping save people. It will also be interesting to find out what Nebula’s role will be in this new film and whose evil bidding she’ll be doing in the sequel.

While the X-Men franchise has been solid as a whole, two of its bigger pitfalls have been the two previous Wolverine movies and it doesn’t seem as though LOGAN, which has an aged Professor X and the introduction of X-23 (aka Laura Kinney) will change that. It could be interesting how the relationship between the Logan and Laura develops throughout the movie but this is a questionable direction for X-Men to go in.  The X-Men are at their best when they are together and not off with Wolverine doing his own thing, let’s leave it at that.

This spot got a lot of people excited when it aired during the game.  After its first season blew up, we’ve finally been given a date for the release of season two of STRANGER THINGS. Unfortunately, though, it’s not until Halloween of 2017.  This season seems as though it will be darker than the first with a heightened sense of fear from its characters.

Why is this happening? This series should have ended two movies ago. Pirates of the Caribbean played out as any good movie series should: a good sequel followed a great first movie and then the sequel is followed by a not-terrible third movie.  Now we’re being presented with a pointless fifth movie, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES, to follow an equally pointless and bad fourth movie.  The return of Orlando Bloom for this movie is a slight plus but it still isn’t clear if seeing this film will be worth leaving home and paying money to go and watch.

Somehow, someway, the Fast and Furious series have continued to survive and make consistently respectable movies for over 15 years now. This could be the biggest stretch yet from the series as Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel), the face of the franchise, is now a villain.  While there should be no expectation that he will stay that way, people will want to see if Dom’s crew can stop him. The addition of Charlize Theron to the cast of THE FATE OF THE FURIOUS will also bring more people to the theaters who will want to see what she has done to sway Dom to the other side of the law.
