Ian McKellen, Helen Mirren to Star in Bill Condon’s New Line Thriller “The Good Liar”

How’s this for a delicious pairing? Two-time Oscar nominee and Oscar winner  are set to star in a new thriller from titled that is set up at New Line, the Tracking Board has confirmed.

Based on the novel by Nicholas Searle, the story follows a career con artist (McKellen) who finds his next mark in a wealthy widow (Mirren) whom he meets online. She takes him into her home and as she opens her life to him, he finds himself starting to care for her… but not all is what it seems in this cat-and-mouse game.

Condon will direct from a script by , who also wrote Condon and McKellen’s 2015 film Mr. Holmes. Condon will also produce with Greg Yolen, while Jack Morrissey will executive produce alongside Aaron L. Gilbert and Jason Cloth of Bron Creative, which is co-financing the film — their first with New Line.

The Good Liar sparked a bidding war when it was released in 2016 and offers rich material for McKellen to sink his teeth into. It’ll be his fourth time working with Condon following their collaborations on Gods and Monsters, the live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast, and the aforementioned Mr. Holmes.

Mirren recently starred in the horror movie Winchester and will next be seen in Disney’s The Nutcracker and the Four Realms.
