Imagine the movie Home Alone without Kevin McAllister breaking a sweat. That should give you some idea of the blueprint for SMART HOUSE, a new techno-thriller from the twisted mind of James Wan that is currently being assembled at Lionsgate.
Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes) will direct from a script by Brad Keene (The Grudge 3), while Wan will produce under his Atomic Monster banner along with Aja and his Piranha 3D producer Gregory Levasseur. Atomic Monster’s head of production Michael Clear will also serve as a producer on the project.
Based on an original idea by Wan, who co-created Lionsgate’s lucrative Saw franchise, Smart House follows a family in the witness protection program who are placed in the custody of a state of the art, autonomous ‘smart house.’ When a group of assassins locates the family, the house goes into lethal defense mode to protect them.
A technologically-advanced house that kills intruders? Just try and tell me that doesn’t sound awesome!
Lionsgate will release Smart House under its Summit Entertainment label. The company previously released Aja’s impressive sophomore feature High Tension.
Wan is currently directing Aquaman, and his previous credits include The Conjuring franchise, the first two Insidious movies and the Universal blockbuster Furious 7. Atomic Monster recently produced Lights Out and the CBS/Lionsgate television series MacGyver, and the company’s next release will be the horror sequel Annabelle: Creation.
