With the success of Lionsgate’s John Wick and its sequel, everyone in Hollywood is looking for their own franchise in the same vein. With that in mind, Jennifer Garner is now in negotiations to play the lead role in Pierre Morel’s revenge thriller, PEPPERMINT.
Written by Chad St. John (London Has Fallen), the action movie is about a woman who sees her husband and daughter murdered in a drive-by shooting, putting her into a coma. Once she awakes, she spends years training to be a killing machine so that on the 10th anniversary of the shooting, she can get revenge… not just on those responsible but also on their lawyers.
The violent action film with a sweet sounding name will be produced by Lakeshore Entertainment’s Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi, no strangers to kick-ass female action stars, having produced the Underworld series for Kate Beckinsale.
Morel is also no stranger to action, having come up in the Luc Besson school of filmmaking and helmed District B13, followed by the hit action movie Taken with Liam Neeson, and then From Paris with Love with John Travolta. Morel also has an extensive background as a cinematographer for previous Besson productions.
Garner previously was being groomed as an action star following her television show, Alias, when 20th Century Fox cast her as Elektra in the 2003 Daredevil movie, opposite future husband Ben Affleck. That was followed up by a less successful Elektra solo movie.
At the same time, STXfilms is working on a deal to acquire the worldwide distribution rights for Peppermint.
