Jesse Eisenberg and Alexander Skarsgard are set to star in THE HUMMINGBIRD PROJECT, an indie movie from War Witch director Kim Nguyen that Hanway Films will begin shopping at Cannes, the Tracking Board has confirmed.
Eisenberg and Skarsgard will play high-frequency traders who dream of building a fibre-optic cable between Kansas and New Jersey, which would make them millions. Of course, they face opposition from their old boss, a psychopathic trader who will stop at nothing to see them fail.
Nguyen wrote the script himself, and the film will be produced by his collaborator Pierre Even of Montreal-based Item 7. Automatik’s Brian Kavanaugh-Jones (Loving) and Fred Berger (La La Land) will serve as executive producers, with production slated to start in October in Montreal. CAA is handling domestic rights.
Eisenberg next stars in Justice League, while Skarsgard is as hot as he’s ever been coming off of HBO’s acclaimed limited series Big Little Lies. He recently wrapped Duncan Jones’ Mute with Paul Rudd and will soon be seen in the period drama The Aftermath with Keira Knightley and Jason Clarke. Skarsgard is currently filming Jeremy Saulnier’s Alaskan thriller Hold the Dark, and he’s also attached to star alongside Nat Wolff in the war movie The Kill Team.
Nguyen, who previously directed the Dane DeHaan-Tatiana Maslany movie Two Lovers and a Bear, is represented by CAA, which also reps Eisenberg and Skarsgard. The news was first reported by Deadline.
