Jimmy Kimmel Tapped to Host 2017 Academy Awards

is set to host the 2017 Academy Awards.

The host of Live! has a slew of hosting gigs on his resumé, including the 2016 Emmy Awards. Kimmel has also been the host of the 2012 Emmy Awards, the 2007 ESPY awards, and the American Music Awards five times. This marks the late night comedian’s first time hosting the .

Kimmel garnered rave reviews for his performance hosting the 2016 Emmys.

Ben Sherwood, Disney/ABC Television Group chief, voiced his support for Kimmel to host the . “We thought Jimmy elevated the Emmys,” said Sherwood at the Paley Center this past September. “We thought Jimmy has earned it, and we’re very hopeful that Jimmy will get [the Oscar hosting gig],” the network executive added.

Michael De Luca and Jennifer Todd will produce the awards show.

The choice of Kimmel – ABC’s golden boy – to host the is indicative of the increasing influence that ABC has over the award shows production. While the Academy has the final decision on the show’s producers, hosts, and other aspects of production design the addition of Kimmel will  give the Alphabet more say in how the show is produced.

Kimmel took to Twitter to confirm the announcement.
