John Oliver to Voice Zazu in Jon Favreau’s “Lion King” Remake at Disney

In what amounts to perfect casting, Last Week Tonight host is set to voice Zazu in Jon Favreau’s live-action remake of at Disney, the Tracking Board has confirmed.

In the classic 1994 animated film, Zazu served as a key advisor to Mufasa, and later, his son Simba. The character was voiced by Rowan Atkinson.

Donald Glover and James Earl Jones are voicing Simba and Mufasa this time around, while Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen will voice Timon and Pumbaa.

Oliver has plenty of experience lending his recognizable voice to animated films, having voiced Vanity Smurf in Sony’s Smurfs franchise, as well as a role in Paramount’s upcoming Amusement Park. He has also been heard on episodes of The Simpsons, Bob’s Burgers, Rick and Morty and Robot Chicken.

Oliver is represented by and Avalon Management, and his casting was first reported by TheWrap. A representative for Disney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
