Jon Hamm to Join Natalie Portman in Astronaut Drama “Pale Blue Dot”

Mad Men alum is in negotiations to star opposite Natalie Portman in Fox Searchlight’s astronaut drama .

Legion and Fargo creator Noah Hawley is directing from a script by Brian C. Brown and Elliott DiGuiseppi. Reese Witherspoon, who was attached to star, but departed the project to make room for the second season of Big Little Lies, will produce with Bruna Papandrea.

The film follows a successful female astronaut (Portman) who starts to unravel when she deals with the struggle of returning to everyday life after returning from a mission in space. The movie will explore the theory that astronauts may lose their grasp on reality when returning to Earth after spending years in space.

Hamm will play Portman’s fellow astronaut who she aggressively pursues after returning to Earth.

With Legion wrapped and Fargo not shooting until next year, production on Pale Blue Dot is expected to start this spring.

Hamm is best known for his iconic role as Don Draper on AMC’s Mad Men, which ended in 2015. Since then he has taken on more movie roles such as the scene-stealing bank robber in Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver. He most recently starred in Marjorie Prime and can be seen next in Beirut. He is represented by .
