The actress will take on the role of Jax-Ur, a character that has been traditionally male in DC comic book mythology. Waddingham becomes the first woman to play the role, after Mackenzie Gray played the same character opposite Henry Cavill in Man of Steel.
In the Krypton mythology, Jax-ur was once one of Krypton’s greatest scientists with deep ties to Krypton’s past. Now she is now determined to bring radical change to Krypton as leader of the underground terrorist organization, Black Zero.
Krypton is set 200 years before Superman and follows the Man of Steel’s grandfather (Cameron Cuffe) as he brings hope and equality to Krypton, turning a planet in disarray into one worthy of giving birth to the greatest Super Hero ever known.
Georgina Campbell, Shaun Sipos, Elliot Cowan, Ann Ogbomo, Rasmus Hardiker, Wallis Day, Aaron Pierre, Blake Ritson and Ian McElhinney also star.
David S. Goyer and Cameron Welsh serve as executive producers.
Waddingham is probably best known on screen as Septa Unella, the Shame nun, on HBO’s Game Of Thrones. She previously appeared as Magdalena on Syfy’s 12 Monkeys. She is represented by Creative Artists Management and Atlas Artists.
