Call me crazy, but I’ve actually been looking forward to the new LEATHERFACE movie, which takes a different approach to the chainsaw-wielding maniac. And now there’s a trailer to quench my eternal bloodthirst.
Rather than the typical tale of terror in Texas, Leatherface follows a deranged lawman on the trail of four psychopaths who have escaped from a mental hospital and kidnapped a young nurse. The catch? One of them turns out to become the iconic slasher known as Leatherface.
Jessica Madsen, Sam Coleman, Sam Strike and James Bloor play the inmates, while Vanessa Grasse plays the nurse they kidnap, and Stephen Dorff plays the crazy cop. Lily Taylor (The Conjuring) co-stars as young Leatherface’s mother, Verna Sawyer.
Directed by Inside filmmakers Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury from a script by Seth M. Sherwood, Leatherface serves as a prequel to Tobe Hooper’s 1974 horror classic, just in case there’s any confusion with 2006’s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, which was a prequel to Michael Bay’s 2003 reboot of the original property.
Christa Campbell, Lati Grobman and Carl Mazzocone produced Leatherface, which will debut on DirecTV on Sept. 21 before arriving in select theaters and on VOD on Oct. 20. Keep this one in mind for fun Halloween scares!
