First Concept Art for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Debuts
Late last night director James Gunn and concept artist Andy Park debuted the first official image from Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The art gives us our first look at Pom Klementieff’s character Mantis, as well as a younger version of Groot. According to executive producer Jonathan Schwartz, this Groot will be more rambunctious and less stoic than the Groot we met in 2014. Star-Lord and Gamora are both seen wearing new outfits, including a sleek new jacket for Gamora and battle armor for Star-Lord. Yandu and Nebula are also in the photo, which means they could both have expanded roles in the film. Not pictured is Kurt Russell, whose role is being kept a secret.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 opens in theaters on May 5, 2017.
Fox Axes Hellfire and Picks Up X-Men Series
Last year Fox announced they were in the early stages of developing a series based around the Hellfire club, a gang run by villainous mutants in the X-Men world. News broke this week that Fox has officially passed on the Hellfire pilot and will instead be developing a more traditional Marvel television series. The show will follow a family who goes on the run when they discover that their son has powers. They take refuge with an underground team of mutants. So far no one has been cast in the roles. Matt Nix (Burn Notice) will pen the pilot and serve as an executive producer alongside Bryan Singer, Lauren Shuler Donner, Simon Kinberg, and Marvel’s Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory. 20th Century Fox Television and Marvel Television are set to co-produce.
Wally West Suits Up in Season 3
This picture broke the geek side of the internet this week. Fans of The Flash comics have been waiting for Wally West to become a speedster on the show, and this new image guarantees that he will have powers this season. While the showrunners have already confirmed that The Flash will kick off with “Flashpoint,” it’s possible that the Wally we know (Keiynan Lonsdale) will be an alternate universe Flash and that he will be the hero in that timeline. For anyone unfamiliar with “Flashpoint,” it’s an different timeline where Barry’s mother is alive but he is not a speedster. It’s a huge storyline for the show to adapt and could be the key to understanding how Wally is suited up in a Flash suit, even though he didn’t have powers when we last saw him in the season two finale.
The Flash season three returns on Tuesday, October 4, 2016.
Legendary’s Pokémon Movie Is Back in Action
Thanks to the incredible boost of the new mobile game Pokémon Go, Legendary’s back-burner Pokémon movie may be moving forward. News broke this week that Legendary and Nintendo are close to locking in a live-action feature based on the characters from Pokémon. Other studios have been in the bidding war previously, but the release of Pokémon Go has boosted interest. Pokémon was previously adapted for television in the nineties, and currently encompasses mobile gaming, online gaming, and card trading. If the deal is completed, a film could be put on the fast track, to capture the attention of gamers playing Pokémon Go.
Colin Firth Is Resurrected for Kingsman Sequel

Kingsman Galahad in Kingsman: The Secret Service. He perished at the end of the first film, leaving Eggsy (Taron Egerton) to carry on by himself. Firth and Egerton are joined by Game of Thrones actor Pedro Pascal, as well as Mark Strong, Sophie Cookson, and Edward Holcroft, Jeff Bridges, Halle Berry, Julianne Moore, Channing Tatum, Vinnie Jones, and Elton John. The movie will continue Eggsy’s adventures as he and Merlin (Strong) head to the U.S. to team up with the “Statesman” after the destruction of Kingsman HQ at the hands of evil mastermind Poppy (Moore).
Kingsman: The Golden Circle hits theaters on June 16, 2017.
