28 Weeks Later helmer Juan Carlos Fresnadillo is in negotiations with Disney to direct the SWORD IN THE STONE live-action remake, The Tracking Board has confirmed. Fresnadillo will direct from a script written by Game of Thrones scribe Bryan Cogman. Brigham Taylor is producing the project.
Sword in the Stone takes lighthearted themes from the legend of King Arthur, focusing on a young Arthur who is being mentored by the magician Merlin. This was the final film released by the studio before Walt Disney’s death.
Disney is also currently developing another Arthurian project, as it was announced earlier this month that Ridley Scott will be directing a Merlin Saga for the studio.
Fresnadillo is known for his dark horror films such as 28 Weeks Later and Intruders. He is represented by UTA
