Fresh off her fourth Oscar nomination (look out Amy Adams!) for Manchester by the Sea, Michelle Williams is headed to the idyllic town of Carmel-by-the-Sea to star opposite Chris Pine in the spy thriller ALL THE OLD KNIVES, the Tracking Board has confirmed.
James Marsh (Man on Wire) is in negotiations to direct the movie, which is being financed by eOne and the Mark Gordon Company. Olen Steinhauer (The Tourist) wrote the book and adapted the screenplay himself.
Williams and Pine will play ex-lovers and veteran spies who reunite for dinner, where they reminisce about a failed mission involving the hijacking of Royal Jordanian Flight 127, which ended in the death of all on board. It’s unclear whether Pine hopes to rekindle his romance with Williams or get to the bottom of a conspiracy, but either way, things aren’t quite what they seem as it becomes increasingly clear that one of them may not survive the meal.
Nick Wechsler is producing with Steve Schwartz and Paula Mae Schwartz of Chockstone Pictures, whose Roger Schwartz will serve as a co-producer. Mark Gordon and Matt Jackson will executive produce for the Mark Gordon Company, whose Sara Smith will oversee the project. CAA and WME are co-repping the film’s domestic distribution rights.
Williams next stars alongside Julianne Moore in Todd Haynes’ Wonderstruck and opposite Hugh Jackman in 20th Century Fox’s musical The Greatest Showman. She’s also attached to star in Ridley Scott’s kidnapping drama All the Money in the World and Jonah Hill’s directorial debut Mid-90s. She’s represented by WME and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
Pine just wrapped Ava DuVernay’s Disney movie A Wrinkle in Time and will soon be seen as Steve Trevor in Wonder Woman. The Hell or High Water star is also hosting Saturday Night Live this weekend. He’s repped by CAA and John Carrabino Management.
After directing one of the greatest documentaries ever made in Man on Wire, Marsh guided Eddie Redmayne to an Oscar win for The Theory of Everything. Repped by WME and Independent Talent Group, he recently wrapped The Mercy starring Colin Firth and Rachel Weisz.
