Molly Ringwald, star of beloved 80s films The Breakfast Club and Sixteen Candles is headed to The CW. The actress has landed a guest role on the network’s upcoming series RIVERDALE as Archie’s mother Mary Andrews.
Ringwald’s character returns to the town of Riverdale after leaving it to follow her dreams. She reconnects with Archie, her husband, Fred, and her former teenage friends Alice and Hermione.
The series will take place in present day but is based on the classic Archie Comics. The show is described as a shocking and subversive interpretation of Archie, Betty, Veronica, and their friends, delving into the surrealism and strangeness of life in a small picturesque town.
Riverdale comes from Warner Bros. Television and Greg Berlanti’s Berlanti Productions. Berlanti will serve as executive producer alongside Sarah Schechter, Jon Goldwater, and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who also wrote the pilot, which was directed by Lee Toland Krieger.
Ringwald’s most recent TV credits include a guest spot on Bravo’s Odd Mom Out and as part of the main cast of The Secret Life of the American Teenager.
She is repped by Untitled Entertainment.
