Netflix has released a brief teaser for the third season of NARCOS, which is one of the best shows on the streaming service, though it won’t quite look the same when it returns.
For starters, Pablo Escobar has been killed, while Boyd Holbrook isn’t coming back to reprise his role as DEA agent Steve Murphy. Instead, the focus will shift to his partner, DEA agent Javier Peña (Pedro Pascal) as he hunts down the richest drug trafficking organization in the world — the Cali Cartel.
Led by four powerful godfathers, the Cali cartel operates much differently than Escobar’s, preferring to bribe government officials and keep its violent actions out of the headlines. Just as its Gilberto Rodriguez Orejuela (Damian Alcazar) announces a bold plan to walk away from the business, Peña enlists the help of American and Colombian law enforcement to take it down.
Michael Stahl-David and Matt Whelan will play two new DEA agents who enter the operation with enthusiasm and inexperience, while Kerry Bishe will play the wife of the cartel’s money launderer.
Netflix has already renewed Narcos for a fourth season, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. We’ll see who makes it out of Season 3 alive when the series returns on Sept. 1.
