Streaming giant Netflix is in the works on new series THE GOOD COP with television veteran Tony Danza set to star. Monk creator Andy Breckman will serve as showrunner and will executive produce with Randy Zisk and Howard Klein. Netflix has given the series an order for ten, one-hour episodes.
Danza, who also produces the series, has been cast as Tony Sr. in the dramedy, a disgraced, former NYPD officer who never followed the rules. He lives with his son, Tony, Jr., an honest NYPD detective who makes a point of always following the rules. Tony Sr. decides to help his son by offering advice on everything from handling suspects to handling women. The series is inspired by the series from the Israeli production company YES who will also executive produce. Zisk is attached to direct the pilot.
The veteran actor first broke out in the classic sitcom Taxi before following it up with Who’s the Boss. More recently he signed on to star in There’s Johnny!, an upcoming comedy on NBCUniversal’s streaming site Seeso. With recent layoffs hanging over the digital network, the future of the series is unclear.
