After working together on The Purge franchise, James DeMonaco and Sebastien Lemercier will produce Take Back the Night via their Man in a Tree banner. Plot details have been hard to come by, but it’s said to be a fresh twist on a familiar genre trope.

Riley has been on a hot streak of late, selling his short story Encyclopedia Dad to WBTV, and landing a spot on the 2017 Young & Hungry List. Buyers are also circling his latest short story, BB3Lwhich is available for all to read here.

Riley was discovered earlier this year by manager Brooklyn Weaver of Energy Entertainment, who represents the writer along with Charlie Ferraro at UTA and attorney Jeff Frankel.

New Regency is the company behind back-to-back Best Picture winners 12 Years a Slave and Birdman. It also produced Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s The Revenant, and backed the celebrated filmmaker’s conceptual virtual reality installation Carne y Arena, which will receive a special honorary Oscar for its contributions to the medium.

One Response to New Regency, “The Purge” Duo Team Up to Produce Hot Genre Spec “Take Back the Night” (Exclusive)

  1. LITERALLY I do not know what this film is about and I have not read it. However it is called “Take Back The Night”, which is traditionally the night where women (sometimes on college campuses) confront sexual assault and other sexual and/or gender-based crimes against women. However, a man wrote this, men are producing, and I might not even be commenting on this had it not been under their ‘Man in a Tree’ banner. I’m not sure if the film has anything to do with this event, but if it does not, I know it is just a spec title, but these people must be truly ignorant.
