Doug Liman’s post-apocalyptic thriller, Chaos Walking, is coming together rather quickly with new casting notices almost every week.
The latest to board Liman’s film is popstar Nick Jonas, who joins the cast of Daisy Ridley, Tom Holland, Mads Mikkelsen (as the main villain), Kurt Sutter and Demian Bichir.
Based on the young adult trilogy by Patrick Ness (A Monster Calls), it takes place on a colony planet where most women have been killed by a virus and another virus called “The Noise” has created immersive visions for those that survived, driving many people insane.
Jonas will play Davy Prentiss Jr, the son of Mikkelson’s army leader, and he’s angry and jealous about his father mentoring Tom Holland’s Todd Hewitt. In turn, Holland has discovered a girl (Ridley) who may be able to solve the mysteries of this New World.
No less than Charlie Kaufmann (Anomalisa) has adapted Ness’ books, along with Ness, Lindsey Beer, Gary Spinelli and John Lee Hancock with Allison Shearmur, Erwin Stoff and Doug Davison producing the film.
Distributor Lionsgate has already set March 1, 2019 for the film’s release.
Jonas has been making a slow transition into acting while maintaining his solo career since the Jonas Brothers disbanded in 2013. He had a recurring role on Fox’s Scream Queens, as well as one of the key roles in the Sundance fave, Goat.
The news was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
