If you like Jason Bateman in Arrested Development then you’ll probably be taken off guard watching him shift gears from the Michael Bluth to a family man who is also a top money launderer for the second largest drug cartel in Mexico in the Netflix series OZARK. Yeah, it’s a tiny bit different from the culty absurd comedy.
The teaser trailer doesn’t tell us much but it certainly is gritty, dramatic and there are zero smiles given which tells me that this isn’t exactly a family-friendly show. It’s giving off some major Breaking Bad vibes and with Laura Linney co-starring, it has some grade-A acting power — and don’t discount Bateman. Although he has an impressive comedy resume, let’s not forget that he has taken on roles of a more serious nature including The Gift, Disconnect, and even Juno. That said, this role isn’t too far-fetched for him.
The show was created by Bill Dubuque (The Judge) and Mark Williams (The Accountant) with Low Winter Sun‘s Chris Mundy as the showrunner. Bateman is very involved in the project beyond an acting capacity, credited as a director four of the ten episodes of the first season which will be available for your bingeing pleasure on July 21, 2017.
