Legendary Entertainment is getting into comedy, a new genre for the company best known for its big-budget epics like Godzilla and Kong: Skull Island. Legendary’s comedy O’LUCKY DAY has just signed on director Jon S. Baird (Filth) with Emmy-winning actor Peter Dinklage in negotiations to produce and star.
Based on a script by Andrew Dodge, the film is about a career con man who poses as a leprechaun to get revenge on someone.
Dinklage hasn’t signed on the dotted line to star just yet, although he will produce the comedy with business partner David Ginsberg via their Estuary Films banner.
Paramount originally had the movie, but when the rights expired, Legendary picked them up.
Dinklage is currently filming the last season of HBO’s Game of Thrones, and he recently appeared in the Oscar-nominated dark comedy Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri opposite Oscar winners Frances McDormand and Sam Rockwell. Dinklage also stars in the long-in-development HBO film My Dinner with Herve and will also appear in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War in an unspecified role. Dinklage is repped by CAA and Jackoway Tyerman.
Represented by CAA, Independent Talent Group and Morris Yorn Barnes, Baird’s previous dark comedy Filth debuted at the Toronto Film Festival in 2013, and he has since directed the biopic Stan and Ollie, starring John C. Reilly and Steve Coogan as legendary silent film stars Laurel and Hardy.
