10 Cloverfield Lane is “Gasp-Worthy“
10 Cloverfield Lane opens today. Without giving away any spoilers, the film is compelling, claustrophobic, and definitely in the vein of the first Cloverfield film. One takeaway from 10 Cloverfield Lane is that “[Director] Trachtenberg packages a well-crafted sci-fi thriller that moves at a deliberate pace and builds up tension to the point of gasp-worthy anxiety.” If you decide to see it, keep your eyes and ears peeled for a Bradley Cooper voice cameo, as well as all those classic Bad Robot Easter eggs.
Star Wars, Deadpool Score Huge Noms at the MTV Movie Awards
Superheros and action stars struck big at this year’s MTV Movie Awards. Star Wars: The Force Awakens leads the pack with 11 nominations, following closely by Deadpool which scored 8 nominations. While some of the nominations are similar to the other award shows, what makes this award show different is that Creed, Straight Outta Compton, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Deadpool, Jurassic World and Star Wars: The Force Awakens scored movie of the year nominations. There’s also a best virtual performance category, which celebrates the voice and motion capture work of actors like Andy Serkis and Lupita Nyong’o, who were both in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Amy Poehler who played Joy in Inside Out, and James Spader who voiced and mo-capped Ultron in Avengers: Age of Ultron. The show, which airs in April, will be hosted by actors Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart.
Game of Thrones Season 6 Trailer Answers *Some* Questions
The fate of Jon Snow revealed? Jaime and Cersei back together? Arya blind? Daenerys in chains? What is going on?!? These were some of the many questions that raced through our minds while we watched the new Game of Thrones season six trailer. While we still have to wait a few more weeks for the series to return to HBO, this trailer was more than enough to whet our appetites. Thankfully the trailer does answer some of the cliffhangers from the season five finale, while keeping some major things unspoiled, like the fate of Jon Snow. We literally knowing nothing about Jon Snow right now, except, was that Melisandre with his body? The Lord of Light may be working some resurrection magic this season, we’ll just have to see.
Spider-Man Debuts in New Captain America: Civil War Trailer
Marvel has been holding back a lot of footage from their newest Captain America film, including any glimpses of everyone’s friendly neighborhood Spider-Man — that is until now. Tom Holland made his debut this week in the final seconds of the newest trailer for Captain America: Civil War. Spider-Man shows up, clad in his classic Spidey-suit, ready to use his webs to steal Captain America’s shield! Does that mean he’s #TeamIronMan? It would appear so. The trailer also featured what will most likely be the inciting incident which sets Tony on a rampage against Bucky and Steve — the death of his best friend and armored wing man, Rhode.
Zendaya Cast in Mysterious Spider-Man Role
The same week that Tom Holland debuted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, his solo film co-star has also been cast. The Disney Channel star and singer Zendaya will star opposite Holland as the character Michelle. While details on the standalone Spider-Man film have been very sparse, Zendaya’s casting is a great sign that the film is moving forward. Zendaya’s most recent work includes starring in Disney’s Shake In Up and K.C. Undercover. Zendaya is also an accomplished singer, who released a self-titled album in 2013.
Justice League Adds JK Simmons as Commissioner Gordon
This might be the most perfect addition to the Batman v. Superman/Justice League world yet! J.K. Simmons will be playing Commissioner Gordon in the upcoming Justice League: Part One film, which bows in 2017. Simmons has already set himself apart in the superhero universe by playing the ferocious and demanding J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man Trilogy. While Jameson and Gordon are pretty different characters, they are iconic in the comic book world, and Simmons will have no problems transitioning from a newspaper editor to the city’s police commissioner. As Commissioner Gordon, Simmon’s joins the ranks of Gotham’s Ben McKenzie and the Dark Knight Trilogy’s Gary Oldman.
Seth Rogen Joins Family-Friendly Where’s Waldo Movie
Waldo, the funny and endearing storybook character who hides himself in a sea of people and asks you to find him in the Where’s Waldo books, is getting his own movie. According to the Tracking Board’s exclusive, Preacher’s producing duo Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg will produce the film at MGM Studios. Rogen and Goldberg’s style is definitely more adult, so it should be interesting to see them take on a more family-friendly property. Where’s Waldo will be a live-action film that is set to feature a time-traveling Waldo who’s in search of his lost love, Wilma.
Assassin’s Creed Sequel Greenlit by New Regency
Assassin’s Creed isn’t expected to hit theaters until the end of this year, and New Regency is already moving forward with a sequel. The film, which stars MacBeth’s Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard, is based on the Ubisoft video game of the same name. According to the Tracking Board exclusive, New Regency is eyeing a sequel for the film, with Fassbender on board to continue his role as Callum Lynch. This could mark a trend for video game adaptations to become franchises, as World of Warcraft is set to launch its first installment this summer.
