Punisher Debuts in New Daredevil Trailer
Marvel’s Daredevil was such a hit last April that Netflix announced a second season within days of its premiere. Now, as if in no time at all, season two is right around the corner, and this week the first full season two trailer hit the web. Frank Castle/The Punisher appears to be the big bad of the season, as a man who takes the law into his own hands through extremely violent means. Castle will hold a mirror up to Matt Murdock/Daredevil this season, as Murdock has to decide if they are both enacting justice in their own ways.
Final Batman v Superman Trailer Released
Batman v Superman is set to be Warner Bros. biggest film of the year. While the focus of this film will be Bruce Wayne/Batman’s retaliation on Superman for the destruction done to Metropolis in Man of Steel, it will actually forge the hero’s friendship, as they will be forced to unite against an even greater foe: Doomsday. The film will also introduce Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, and it will begin to assemble the Justice League, which is, in short, DC Comics’s version of The Avengers.
HBO Releases Spooky New Game of Thrones Teaser
The last season of Game of Thrones ended in multiple cliffhangers, and this new teaser does not give any hints as to who died and who is still alive. Strangely, this spooky new teaser actually assumes that everyone died, but we know that can’t be true because then there wouldn’t be a new season. What does the teaser mean then? It shows the House of Black and White, and numerous lifeless faces, some of characters who died in the past, and some who aren’t dead yet. Since one of the mottos of the show is “Valar Morghulis” – which means “all men must die” – is this teaser showing both the past and the future, and will some of the faces shown die this season? One thing is for sure, on this show, no character is ever safe.
First Ghostbusters Teaser Announces Trailer Premiere
The ladies of the new Ghostbusters film are ready to suit up and kick some ghost butt, and this new trailer announcement sets up the magnitude of the villain the Ghostbusters must face. The video opens with New York City covered in police officers and the military, who are all converging on Times Square. Something big is threatening the city, but what? Neither the ghost nor the team are revealed in the teaser, but the video does ask the age-old question, “Who you gonna call?” The full trailer will drop March 3 and the film will follow this summer.
John Wick 2 Announces New Title and Release Date
Keanu Reeve’s hit man flick John Wick became a bit of a cult sensation last year, and news of a sequel began to circle shortly after its release. The cast featured Reeves, as well as John Leguizamo, Adrianne Palicki, Bridget Moynahan, Dean Winters, Ian McShane, and Willem Dafoe. The noir, gun-fu laden flick made more than four times its production budget and made a smart move in filming a sequel so quickly after the film’s first debut. Reeves will be back to play the title character, in John Wick Chapter 2. The film wrapped production recently, and is set to be released in the spring of 2017.
John Wick Chapter 2 kicks into theaters February 10, 2017.
Star Wars Episode VIII Begins Production
Everyone knew that Episode VIII would start filming soon, but no one expected we would actually see footage from the film until the summer of 2017. Thank you Disney/Lucasfilm for that early look at what was one of the most powerful scenes in The Force Awakens. Daisy Ridley and Mark Hamill can both be seen in that video, and we know that Adam Driver, John Boyega and numerous other cast members all back in the UK to kick off Episode VIII filming. With filming underway, we get to start the cycle of anticipation all over again, as we wait for the next installment of the Skywalker/Solo family saga that is Star Wars.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Begins Production
Director James Gunn announced a while back that principle photography of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 would start in the spring of 2016, and the photo above proves that filming has definitely gotten underway. The image is an awesome example of the rock-and-roll style of the film, as it depicts the cast not as superheroes, but as rock stars. The original band of outlaws is back for Guardians 2, as Rocket, Groot, Gamora, Drax, and Star-Lord are all seen in the image. Disney also announced the full cast of this film this week, which featured a new character, Kurt Russell, who is presumably playing Star-Lord’s mysterious celestial father.
Transformers Movies Shift, Confirm Bumblebee Spinoff
Last year, Paramount put together a writers room to plot out the next three Transformers films. Writers rooms are typically how television shows break episodes, but when you’re creating a shared universe this large, films then become like episodes in a long arc of cinematic narrative. This week, Paramount announced the release dates for these three Transformers movie, one of which will be a standalone film for everyone’s favorite car comedian and protector, Bumblebee. Transformers 5 hits theaters on June 23, 2017, Bumblebee’s Transformers 6 opens in theaters on June 8, 2018, and Transformers 7 debuts in theaters on June 28, 2019.
The next three Transformers films roll into theaters June 2017, 2018, and 2019.
