Reese Witherspoon and Bruna Papandrea have signed a two-year overall deal with ABC Studios to develop and produce exclusively broadcast television series under their Pacific Standard banner. Witherspoon and Papandrea will bring in a dedicated TV executive to work with Pacific Standard’s creative executive Jeanne Snow.
Pacific Standard is currently in pre-production with its first television series Big Little Lies after a rare straight-to-series order from HBO, however the ABC Studios deal marks the shingle’s first entry into broadcast. With the Pacific Standard’s expressed goal of creating more quality female-driven entertainment, ABC promises to be a good fit, as it currently serves as home base to Shonda Rhimes and her slate of hit female-led dramas.
Pacific Standard has been particularly aggressive in their development slate this year, particularly in their acquisition of literary properties. In just the past few months, they’ve bought the rights to Jessica Knoll‘s Luckiest Girl Alive, GG Walker’s All Is Not Forgotten, Maureen Sherry Klinksy‘s Opening Belle, and S.J. Watson‘s Second Life. Meanwhile, Witherspoon is set to produce and star in Disney’s live-action Tinker Belle adaptation, Tink.
The deal was brokered by CAA.
