“Rick & Morty” is Getting Darker for Season 3 (VIDEO)

After delays that led to creator Dan Harmon to launch into an explanation rant on Twitter, we finally have a trailer and premiere date for season three of Adult Swim’s . The animated series from Harmon and Justin Roiland is set to return on Sunday, July 30 at 11:30pm.

“The reason S3 took long is because it took long to write, because it was S3 of a show that we were scared to make worse than S2 or S1,” wrote Harmon via Twitter. Harmon is a notorious perfectionist with his writing which, of course, has led to creative dust-ups on his other TV credits such as Community and Sarah Silverman Program. It was these previous instances that fueled speculation that there was trouble behind-the-scenes of the Adult Swim series.

The news was announced during a livestream hosted by Brandon Johnson, who voices Mr. Goldford.

“Welcome to the darkest year of adventure” proclaims the tagline for the season, which means there’s a lot to look forward to from our dynamic duo.
