Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) is directing from a script by Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing the movie with Amy Pascal. Sony executives Palak Patel and Eric Fineman will oversee the project for the studio.
Ahmed will play a popular Marvel character in Venom, which is slated to hit theaters on Oct. 5, 2018. The last draft of the script that my sources read apparently featured Carnage, and while Ahmed is rumored to have auditioned for that role, they’re are torn as to whether he’ll ultimately play that character or a different one.
One individual with knowledge of the project insists that Ahmed has been cast as Carnage, but said it’s going to be treated as a reveal in the film, though a studio insider cast doubt on that information. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see for now…
I’ve thought Ahmed was special ever since I saw him go toe-to-toe with Jake Gyllenhaal in Nightcrawler. He’s a brilliant actor and a bit of a… chameleon, and I think he’s a great addition to Venom, which already had an ace up its sleeve when Hardy signed on to play Eddie Brock. The duo nearly worked together once before when Kathryn Bigelow was developing the post-9/11 drama True American.
Ahmed will soon be seen alongside Rooney Mara and Ben Mendelsohn in the indie drama Una, and he’s currently filming Jacques Audiard’s English-language debut The Sisters Brothers with Jake Gyllenhaal, Joaquin Phoenix and John C. Reilly.
