Online network Hulu has signed a deal with A+E Networks for the exclusive subscription streaming rights to Roots, War & Peace, and Barbarians Rising.
“We’re so proud to welcome such a culturally important and highly rated series as Roots to Hulu,” said Craig Erwich, senior VP, head of content for Hulu. “With acclaimed titles like War & Peace and Barbarians Rising, our expanded deal with A+E Networks furthers our strategy of offering the very best in premium, exclusive television to Hulu subscribers.”
Roots premiere last month and racked up 14.4 million total linear viewers in its premiere week, and the four nights had 50.6 million viewers for the week ending June 5, according to Nielsen data. The miniseries is a remake of the 1977 series chronicling a family’s history during American slavery.
War & Peace, an adaptation of the classic novel by Leo Tolstoy, aired on Lifetime, A&E, and History in January. It starred Paul Dano and Cinderella‘s Lily James.
Barbarians Rising, an eight-part docu-drama following the rise and fall of the Roman Empire, premiered on June 6 on History. It will be available on Hulu in 2017.
