To be fair, Atkinson has provided lots of laughs with his roles over the years including Mr. Bean, although the previous installment Johnny English Reborn only grossed $8.3 million domestically (compared to $151 million overseas). Obviously, the third movie in the comedy series is being made due to the success of the second movie internationally in 2011.
That said, the movie looks funny enough, directed by Irish TV director David Kerr from a script by William Davies, who wrote the previous two Johnny English films. It’s produced by Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner from Working Title with Chris Clark and co-stars Ben Miller, Olga Kurylenko, Emma Thompson and Jake Lacy with Atkinson.
The plot synopsis being:
Johnny English Strikes Again is the third installment of the Johnny English comedy series, with Rowan Atkinson returning as the much loved accidental secret agent. The new adventure begins when a cyber-attack reveals the identity of all active undercover agents in Britain, leaving Johnny English as the Secret Service’s last hope. Called out of retirement, English dives head first into action with the mission to find the mastermind hacker. As a man with few skills and analogue methods, Johnny English must overcome the challenges of modern technology to make this mission a success.
Johnny English Strikes Again doesn’t have a North American release date yet, but you can watch the trailer and see some new stills below.
